HSV-TMP is a leading manufacturer of plastic products, housings and shaped components. One of the techniques used to manufacture these products is PC/ABS injection moulding. Based on the specifications of the finished or semi-finished product, HSV-TMP uses a range of plastics and additives during the injection moulding process to achieve an optimal end result.
What is PC/ABS?
PC/ABS, polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, consists of two separate polymers: PC and ABS. Combining these two polymers makes it possible to tap into the full potential of their positive properties. PC offers good mechanical properties, such as toughness, high maximum operating temperatures and high heat resistance. A characteristic feature of ABS is its excellent processability, because the mixture flows much better than pure PC. It is also possible to incorporate other additives as needed, for example giving products anti-static properties. Where PC/ABS is used
PC/ABS can be found, for example, in:
- housings for household appliances, TVs & LCD panels, wall sockets and plugs
- keyboards, instrument panels, housings for medical devices
- inside mobile phones
- bumpers & dashboards
- toys
- power tools
Example PC/ABS: explosion-resistant cover of a laboratory centrifuge
The advantages of PC/ABS
PC/ABS has excellent toughness at low temperatures, while offering high impact resistance and heat resistance. The advantages of PC/ABS at a glance:
- high heat distortion temperature
- heat resistant
- impact resistant
- tough and rigid
- improved shrinkage
- dimensional stability
- improved processability
Finishing and assembly
PC/ABS is available in all colours. Various surface finishes can be added to PC/ABS: painted, embossed, galvanised, printed and metallic. In addition, you can opt for a matt, glossy or satin finish for your product. You can find more information on finishing and assembly at HSV Technical Moulded Parts on the assembly page.
What does PC/ABS injection moulding cost?
Would you like to request a cost estimate for PC/ABS injection moulding? Request a plastic QuickScan. The results of the QuickScan are used to assess the feasibility of your product design and offer you an initial estimate of the costs.
Sustainable plastic injection moulding
The environment is a top priority at HSV Technical Moulded Parts. We consider sustainable plastic injection moulding to be a matter of course, just like recycling and reusing plastics. PC/ABS is ideal for recycling and reuse. It is perfectly aligned with the circular economy and our organisation’s environmental vision. Read more about our sustainable initiatives.
Injection moulding of large plastic products
HSV Technical Moulded Parts is a specialist in injection moulding for large plastic products, shaped components and housings. Various thermoplastic polymers are used in injection moulding; one of these is polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (PC/ABS). Would you like advice and information on which thermoplastic is best for the realisation of your plastic product? Request the Plastic QuickScan and receive advice without any obligations.
